Cambridge Cancer Genomics
Cambridge Cancer Genomics (CCG) uses advances in machine learning, AI and big data analysis to power a new type of cancer treatment regimen. Their mission is to ensure that each patient has the right treatment to beat their cancer. Co-founders John, Harry, Evaline, and Nirmesh joined Panacea Stars in 2017 shortly after creating their company. They subsequently joined the Y Combinator programme and to-date they’ve raised $8M in seed capital. They continue to expand and to grow, pushing the boundaries of precision oncology.
Enterobiotix are leveraging the untapped potential of the human microbiome to develop novel medicinal products that restore health and prevent disease, with an initial focus on infections caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria. They are developing and advancing three core product portfolios that build on the science of faecal microbiota transplantation. Founder James started the company as a 21-year-old medical student and joined Panacea Stars in 2017, taking home Panacea Stars Develop phase prize package for that year. The company is now flourishing and have secured over £2M in funding.
DJS Antibodies’ proprietary antibody discovery technology delivers unprecedented success rates in the discovery of functional antibodies to GPCRs. Built on a deep understanding of immunology and antibody production it enables them to discover functional antibodies to complex protein targets. Co-founders Joe and David joined Panacea Stars in 2016 while completing their respective DPhil at the University of Oxford. They have since raised £2.5M in pre-seed funding to continue develop their venture.
CRIAM provides fast, affordable and in-situ blood test analysis to empower people with instant information about their well-being and health conditions. The premise lies in providing to monitor, control and contain diseases worldwide. Founded by Vitor, Ana and Filipe, CRIAM joined Panacea Stars in 2018 from Portugal, and went on to secure £3.5M from Faster Capital.
Phenomic AI accelerates drug discovery with AI. They combine machine learning and phenotypic screening to unlock key discoveries that will advance medicine in the next decade. Co-founders Sam and Oren joined Panacea Stars in 2018 and raised £1.8M from Innovia Ventures and Radical Capital.
Cytera builds machines that automate the growing of human and animal cells. Formerly HackScience, Ignacio, Ali and Henry joined Panacea Stars in 2017 and subsequently participated in Y Combinator receiving £1.4M.
Caura offers a smart device that tracks molecular signature and gives instant, personalised feedback to train smarter, predict exhaustion, provide optimal dietary plans and reduce the risk of injuries. Renato, Rafael, Gillian, Alistar and Jaime founded the company and joined Panacea Stars in 2017. They continue to flourish, securing £1.2M from JamJar Investments and Social Starts. Renato and Rafael were also named Forbes 30 under 30 in 2018.
Feebris uses AI for precision detection of complex respiratory conditions. Feebris’ software platform connects to existing medical sensors, and can be used intuitively by non-doctor users, outside the clinic, to detect respiratory issues early and avoid complications and hospitalisations. Founded in 2017 by Elina and Adam, they joined Panacea Stars in 2018 and subsequently, they secured £1.1M from 24 Haymarket.
VisusNano Ltd. is developing a drug-eluting intraocular lens implant, for use in patients undergoing cataract surgery. Their product improves patient outcomes, obviates the need for eye drops after surgery, and avoids the need for laser treatment after surgery. Co-founders Joanna, Elodie, Philip, and Darren joined Panacea Stars in 2016 and were the winner of our competition for that year. Since then, they have raised over £600K of funding to continue growing their company.
